A Harvard study reported in my newspaper showed that drinking milk correlates with a higher incidence of prostate cancer. But we were always told that as we age, we need more calcium to keep bones healthy, and milk is a good source. Should we stop drinking milk?Harvey B Simon
Harvard Men'S Health Watch|May 24, 2003
On call. I am a 68-year-old man with a question about my waistline. I had surgery for prostate cancer seven years ago, and my PSA has remained okay. My health is otherwise perfect. I work out at my health club every day at 6 a.m., and I eat a healthful diet. I'm six-foot-one and my weight is 180. My weight has not changed in the past 10 years, and I wear the same size 36 trousers as always, but my waist seems to bulge a bit more each year. What can I do to correct my potbelly?Harvey B Simon

On call. I love to work out, but I just read that exercise would produce free radicals in my body. AM I doing more harm than good by going to the gym?Harvey B Simon
Harvard Men'S Health Watch|June 24, 2004
On call. My doctor gave me a prescription for Uroxatral to treat my enlarged prostate. I tried to look up this medicine in your Harvard Medical School Guide to Men's Health, but I couldn't find it. What can you tell me about Uroxatral?Harvey B Simon
Harvard Men'S Health Watch|March 19, 2005
On call. I was impressed by your July 2004 article on fish oil, and I'm thinking of taking it. I remember that my mother gave me a spoonful of cod liver oil every day. Would it be a good thing for me to have today?Harvey B Simon
Harvard Men'S Health Watch|July 28, 2005
On call. I'll be turning 65 in a few months. I understand that men my age should have a new test to check for bulging blood vessels. Can you explain the test and tell me if I should have it?Harvey B Simon
Harvard Men'S Health Watch|January 22, 2010
On call. I just reviewed your July 2009 article on PSA testing. After talking with my wife, I've decided to skip the PSA test when I go for my annual physical next month. But your article doesn't say much about rectal exams. Should I skip that also?Harvey B Simon
Harvard Men'S Health Watch|May 14, 2009
On call. I am 76 years old, and I've had an enlarged prostate for at least 10 years. I've been taking Proscar for about a year, and it seems to be helping quite a bit. I have not noticed any side effects, but I'm worried that if the medicine reduces testosterone levels enough to shrink my prostate, it will also give me osteoporosis. Should I change medications, or take Fosamax like my wife?Harvey B Simon
