On call. I've heard that men are making fewer sperm cells than they used to, and birth rates may suffer. What's the latest information?

On call. I am a 64-year-old man, quite healthy except for high blood pressure, which was diagnosed last year. My doctor gave me Hydro-Diuril, which was only partly successful. Then he added Prinivil, but I had to stop it because of a terrible cough. Now he wants me to take Lopressor, but I've read the package insert and I'm worried about side effects--especially sexual problems, since I already have problems in that area. Do I have to take the pills?

On call. My husband subscribes to Harvard Men's Health Watch, but I read the newsletter as much as he does. I'm writing to ask about our son who just made his college lacrosse team. I remember reading about a lacrosse player in your area who died during a game. Is lacrosse safe for our boy?

I am married to a 63-year-old accountant who subscribes to the Harvard Men's Health Watch. My husband had a small heart attack last winter. He feels fine now, but he has to take five pills a day. He's back to his golf, and when he doesn't play he walks two miles a day. But he insists on mowing the lawn himself, pushing a heavy mower, and I'm worried. What do you think?

On call. I've had gout for many years. I used to take Zyloprim without any problems, but I just had a severe allergic reaction, so my doctor switched me to Benemid. I'm doing okay, but the drug sometimes upsets my stomach. Do you have any suggestions?

On call. Following the lead of our 12-year-old daughter, my wife has become a vegetarian. She says she's willing to continue serving meat & chicken, but I sense that she'd rather not. What can you tell me about the safety of a vegetarian diet?
