Ask the doctors. I recently had a drug-eluting stent placed in one of my coronary arteries after an episode of severe chest pain. My doctor told me I had to take Plavix every day. Now I feel perfectly fine-except for my right hip. I need a hip replacement, but my orthopedist wants to wait until I'm off Plavix before operating. Ask the doctor. I need surgery for a gastrointestinal problem, and my question is how to handle my antiplatelet therapy, which I have been taking for two years since I had angioplasty. I take aspirin and clopidogrel, which were started after I had a heart attack and a stent was placed to keep the narrowed artery open. Things have been going just fine.
