Ask the doctor. I am a 59-year-old man. The results of my latest blood test showed that my LDL cholesterol was 67, which was flagged as low. (I do not take any cholesterol-lowering drugs.) Should I be worried, or do anything to raise my LDL?Thomas Lee

Ask the doctor. Six months after having my knee replaced (at age 88!), I developed a cardiac arrhythmia. I know of this happening to several other people, including a friend who developed an arrhythmia two months after having his hip replaced at age 76. Ask the doctor. I have had a leaking aortic valve for many years. I get an echocardiogram every six months. After the latest one, my doctor told me that my heart was enlarging and asked me repeatedly whether I was getting short of breath with exercise. I told him that sure, I get tired, but it isn't like I am breathing hard while sitting still. Now he wants me to have surgery to replace the valve. Should I do this at age 68?Thomas Lee

Ask the doctor. I am 76 years old and still get hot flashes. Is it true that women who have hot flashes many years after menopause are more likely to experience heart problems than those whose symptoms end early in menopause?Thomas Lee
Harvard Heart Letter : From Harvard Medical School|February 1, 2008
Ask the doctor. I am 86 years old and have been taking Fosamax to strengthen my bones for nearly 10 years. A few months ago, I suddenly fainted and was later diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. Did that happen because I was taking Fosamax?Thomas Lee
Harvard Heart Letter : From Harvard Medical School|January 23, 2008
Ask the doctor. I was recently admitted to the hospital in the middle of the night with chest pain. When the doctors took my blood pressure, they found that it was much lower in my right arm than in my left. They rushed me in for a CT scan, saying they were looking for a "tear." Fortunately, there wasn't one, and the next day I underwent angioplasty. What was this tear they were worried about?Thomas Lee
Harvard Heart Letter : From Harvard Medical School|July 21, 2006
Ask the doctor. A warning on my statin prescription tells me not to drink grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit. Does this mean I can never enjoy this delicious fruit again?Thomas Lee
