Insights
This case report details a rare follicular lymphoma with unusual cyclin D1 expression. Genetic analysis revealed BCL2-IGH and CCND1-IGH fusions, offering insights into lymphoma subtypes.
Area of Science:
- Hematology
- Oncology
- Molecular Pathology
Background:
- Follicular lymphoma is typically characterized by BCL2 gene rearrangement.
- Cyclin D1 expression is uncommon in low-grade follicular lymphoma.
Observation:
- An unusual case of low-grade follicular lymphoma exhibiting cyclin D1 expression was observed.
- Standard histological features of follicular lymphoma were present.
Findings:
- Interphase fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) identified both BCL2-IGH and CCND1-IGH fusions.
- The co-occurrence of these genetic alterations is noteworthy.
Implications:
- This case expands the molecular understanding of follicular lymphoma heterogeneity.
- It may inform diagnostic approaches and classification of B-cell lymphomas.
- Further research into the clinical significance of combined BCL2 and CCND1 fusions is warranted.
Abstract:
This report describes an unusual case of cyclin D1 expression by an otherwise typical follicular lymphoma, of low histological grade. BCL2-IGH and CCND1-IGH fusions were identified by interphase fluorescence in situ hybridisation.

M-Cdk Drives Transition Into Mitosis
Cyclin-dependent kinases, or Cdks, work in concert with cyclins to control cell cycle transitions. M-Cdk, a complex of Cdk1 bound to M cyclin, is a well-known example of this coordinated control that drives the transition from the G2 to the M phase.
