Insights
Glycoprotein 60 (gp60), an IgG Fc-binding protein, is located in human hepatocytes, platelets, and lymphocytes. This protein is distinct from known Fc gamma receptors.
Area of Science:
- Immunology
- Biochemistry
Background:
- Glycoprotein 60 (gp60) is an IgG Fc-binding protein.
- It was recently isolated from normal human plasma.
Purpose of the Study:
- To determine the localization of gp60 in human tissues and cells.
- To compare gp60 with previously identified IgG-binding proteins and Fc gamma receptors.
Main Methods:
- Immunocytochemical techniques were employed.
- Isolation of gp60 from human plasma and PBL culture supernatants.
Main Results:
- gp60 was localized in human hepatocytes, platelets, and a subpopulation of peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL).
- gp60 is identical to a 60,000 MW IgG-binding protein (60-IBF) from PBL supernatants.
- gp60 is distinct from Fc gamma RI, Fc gamma RII, and Fc gamma RIII.
Conclusions:
- gp60 is a novel IgG Fc-binding protein found in human hepatocytes, platelets, and PBL.
- gp60 represents a distinct entity from known Fc gamma receptors, suggesting unique functions.
Abstract:
Using various immunocytochemical techniques it has been shown that glycoprotein 60 (gp60), an IgG Fc-binding protein recently isolated from normal human plasma, is found localized in human hepatocytes, platelets and a subpopulation of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL). This protein, which appears to be identical to a 60,000 MW IgG-binding protein (60-IBF) previously isolated from normal human PBL culture supernatants, also appears to be distinct from the three well-defined leucocyte Fc gamma-receptors: Fc gamma RI, Fc gamma RII and Fc gamma RIII.
