- Infectious Diseases
- Oncology
Context:
- Hematological malignancies represent a vulnerable patient population.
- Assessing the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) is crucial for patient management.
- Internal medicine wards manage diverse patient groups, including those with cancer.
Purpose:
- To determine the incidence of tuberculosis in patients diagnosed with hematological malignancies.
- To evaluate the prevalence of TB within a hospitalized internal medicine cohort.
Summary:
- A retrospective analysis was conducted on 2,025 patients admitted to an internal clinic.
- Tuberculosis was identified in 42 patients with hematological malignancies.
- The overall incidence of tuberculosis in this specific patient group was found to be low.
Impact:
- Provides baseline data on tuberculosis incidence in hematological malignancy patients.
- Informs clinical suspicion and diagnostic strategies for TB in immunocompromised individuals.
- Highlights the need for continued surveillance of infectious diseases in cancer patients.
Abstract:
The analysis of the incidence of tuberculosis in patients with hematological malignancies was performed in 2,025 patients hospitalized in internal clinic. Only in 42 cases tuberculosis was noticed.
