Insights
This study maps specific keratins in eccrine sweat glands using immunohistochemistry. Findings reveal distinct keratin patterns in different gland segments, aiding in understanding skin tumor origins.
Area of Science:
- Dermatology
- Histology
- Immunohistochemistry
Background:
- Immunohistochemical detection in paraffin sections is valuable for retrospective analysis of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues.
- Understanding keratin distribution in eccrine glands is crucial for diagnostic pathology.
Purpose of the Study:
- To localize specific keratins within eccrine sweat glands.
- To determine the tissue distribution of various keratins using monoclonal antibodies.
- To analyze keratin expression patterns in different segments of normal eccrine glands.
Main Methods:
- Immunohistochemical staining was performed on routine paraffin-embedded sections.
- Several monoclonal antibodies targeting fixation-resistant keratin antigens were utilized.
- Localization and distribution of specific keratins were analyzed in eccrine sweat glands.
Main Results:
- Specific keratin localization was clarified in different segments of normal eccrine glands.
- Cytokeratins showed distinct expression patterns in secretory and ductal portions.
- Differential immunoreactivity was observed in luminal and basal cells of eccrine ducts, and between acrosyringium and dermal ducts.
Conclusions:
- The data provide insights into the histogenesis and differentiation of skin tumors with eccrine differentiation.
- This research enhances the understanding of eccrine gland biology and its relevance to cutaneous neoplasms.
Background:
Immunohistochemical detection in paraffin sections would be of value in the retrospective analysis of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues.
Objective And Methods:
In this study with several monoclonal antibodies directed against fixation-resistant keratin antigens, we performed immunohistochemical staining on routine paraffin-embedded sections to localize specific keratins in the eccrine sweat glands and to determine the tissue distribution of various keratins.
Results:
We clarified the localization of specific keratins in different segments of normal eccrine glands. Immunohistochemical localization of individual cytokeratins showed different patterns in secretory and ductal portions, although cytokeratins were expressed in all segments of normal sweat glands. Different immunoreactivities were noted in the luminal and basal cells of eccrine ducts. There were also some differences in immunophenotype between the acrosyringium and the dermal ducts.
Conclusion:
These data provide information for the determination of the histogenesis and differentiation of skin tumors with eccrine differentiation.
