La investigación biomédica, particularmente en genética, requiere estándares de protección comunitaria. Sus antecedentes:

La ética tradicional de la experimentación humana se centra en la protección individual.
La investigación biomédica, especialmente la genética, requiere cada vez más estándares éticos a nivel comunitario.

Objetivo del estudio:

Desarrollar una estrategia para establecer estándares éticos para la protección de la comunidad en la investigación biomédica.
Crear un marco para determinar las protecciones apropiadas basadas en las características de la comunidad.

Principales métodos:

Desarrolló una estrategia de cinco pasos para la protección de la comunidad.
Identificó las características relevantes de la comunidad para los entornos de investigación.
Delineó una tipología de comunidad.
Determinó una serie de protecciones comunitarias.
Protecciones vinculadas a las características de la comunidad.

Principales resultados:

La estrategia permite protecciones comunitarias personalizadas.
Las protecciones pueden incluir el consentimiento y la consulta, la consulta sola o ninguna protección adicional.
El nivel de protección está determinado por las características específicas de la comunidad.

Conclusiones:

Una estrategia sistemática es esencial para proteger a las comunidades en la investigación biomédica.
El marco propuesto garantiza prácticas éticas de investigación a nivel comunitario.
