Sus antecedentes:

  • Internet es cada vez más accesible, lo que presenta oportunidades para las intervenciones de salud pública.
  • Los estudios controlados que evalúan los programas de pérdida de peso basados en Internet son limitados.
  • Los adultos con sobrepeso representan una población significativa para las intervenciones de control de peso.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Para comparar la efectividad de un programa estructurado de pérdida de peso conductual en Internet contra un sitio web de educación para la pérdida de peso.
  • Para evaluar las diferencias en la pérdida de peso inicial y los cambios en la circunferencia de la cintura entre las dos intervenciones basadas en Internet.

Principales métodos:

  • Se realizó un ensayo controlado aleatorizado con 91 empleados hospitalarios adultos sanos con sobrepeso (IMC 25-36 kg/m2).
  • Los participantes fueron asignados a un grupo de educación en Internet o a un grupo de terapia de comportamiento en Internet durante 6 meses.
  • El grupo de terapia conductual recibió lecciones semanales por correo electrónico, autocontrol en línea con comentarios y un tablón de anuncios en línea; el grupo de educación recibió enlaces a sitios web.

Principales resultados:

  • El grupo de terapia conductual logró una pérdida de peso significativamente mayor (4,1 kg a los 6 meses) que el grupo de educación (1,6 kg a los 6 meses).
  • Un mayor porcentaje de participantes en el grupo de terapia conductual alcanzó el objetivo de pérdida de peso del 5% (45% vs. 22%).
  • Se observaron reducciones significativas en la circunferencia de la cintura en el grupo de terapia conductual en comparación con el grupo de educación a los 3 y 6 meses.

Conclusiones:

  • El tratamiento conductual estructurado entregado a través de Internet, con contacto regular y retroalimentación individualizada, es efectivo para la pérdida de peso.
  • Internet y el correo electrónico son plataformas viables para ofrecer programas de pérdida de peso estructurados y conductuales.
  • Este estudio apoya el uso de intervenciones de salud digital para el manejo del sobrepeso y la obesidad.
