La hemooxigenasa-1 (HO-1) demuestra propiedades antiaterogénicas al prevenir la peroxidación lipídica. La inhibición de HO-1 en conejos aumentó significativamente la formación de lesiones ateroscleróticas, destacando su papel protector contra las enfermedades cardiovasculares.
