Sus antecedentes:

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Analizar el estado de la educación médica de los Estados Unidos durante el año académico 2002-2003.
  • Para comparar los datos del año académico 2002-2003 con los del año académico 1997-1998.

Principales métodos:

  • Se utilizaron datos del Cuestionario Anual de la Facultad de Medicina del Comité de Enlace sobre Educación Médica (LCME).
  • Datos incorporados del libro de datos de la Asociación de Colegios Médicos Americanos (AAMC) y el almacén de datos de la AAMC: archivo de matriculados solicitantes.
  • Números evaluados de profesores, estadísticas de solicitantes y estudiantes, horas curriculares para nuevas materias y métodos de evaluación de estudiantes.

Principales resultados:

  • El número de profesores a tiempo completo aumentó un 13,2% (109.526 en 2002-2003 desde 96.773 en 1997-1998).
  • El número de solicitantes disminuyó un 21,8% (33.625 en 2002-2003 desde 43.016 en 1997-1998), mientras que la matrícula se mantuvo estable (66.677).
  • Nuevas asignaturas integradas en los planes de estudio, con asignación de tiempo variable; el uso de evaluaciones estandarizadas de habilidades clínicas como exámenes clínicos estructurados objetivos (OSCE) está aumentando.

Conclusiones:

  • Las escuelas de medicina de los Estados Unidos se enfrentan a una disminución en el número de solicitantes, pero mantienen una inscripción estable de estudiantes.
