Resumen
El virus de la hepatitis C no se relacionó directamente con la aplasia asociada a la hepatitis. En cambio, un nuevo agente infeccioso puede causar este síndrome raro y fatal y la hepatitis fulminante.

- La anemia aplásica asociada a la hepatitis es una condición rara y a menudo fatal.
- El agente causal de este síndrome sigue siendo en gran parte desconocido.
Objetivo del estudio:
- Para investigar la posible asociación entre la infección por el virus de la hepatitis C (VHC) y la anemia aplásica asociada a la hepatitis.
- Para identificar la causa subyacente de la anemia aplásica asociada a la hepatitis.
Principales métodos:
- Un estudio de serie de casos en el que participaron 28 pacientes con aplasia asociada a la hepatitis y 3 pacientes trasplantados de hígado.
- Detección del VHC utilizando la reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (PCR) en muestras de suero, médula ósea y hígado.
- Análisis de los linfocitos T citotóxicos activados (células T CD8+).
Principales resultados:
- El ARN del VHC se detectó en el 36% de los pacientes con aplasia asociada a la hepatitis, pero esto se relacionó con las transfusiones de sangre posteriores al inicio, no con la infección primaria.
- El VHC no se detectó en muestras tempranas de pacientes del NIH o en muestras de hígado de receptores de trasplantes.
- Se observaron niveles elevados de linfocitos T CD8+ activados temprano en el curso de la enfermedad.
Conclusiones:
- El estudio sugiere que el VHC no es la causa principal de la anemia aplásica asociada a la hepatitis.
- Los resultados implican un nuevo agente infeccioso no identificado tanto en la aplasia asociada a la hepatitis como en la hepatitis fulminante.
