  • Los médicos indios contribuyen sustancialmente a la literatura médica mundial, produciendo la mitad de todas las publicaciones de los países en desarrollo.
  • Sin embargo, la calidad y la visibilidad internacional de las revistas médicas indias siguen siendo poco exploradas.
  • Una parte significativa de la investigación médica india puede no llegar a la comunidad científica mundial.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Evaluar la calidad y la posición internacional de las revistas médicas indias.
  • Comprender las preferencias de los autores para la publicación de investigaciones médicas.
  • Evaluar la detectabilidad global de las publicaciones médicas indias.

Principales métodos:

  • Revisión sistemática y evaluación de 75 revistas médicas indias serias en inglés.
  • Inclusión de las revistas indexadas en el Índice Cumulado Medicus.
  • Evaluación por árbitros indios y extranjeros.
  • Encuesta de autores médicos indios con respecto a las opciones de publicación.

Principales resultados:

  • Solo 8 de las 22 revistas indias indexadas en el Cumulated Index Medicus fueron consideradas de estándar internacional por los árbitros.
  • Los autores indios prefieren las revistas extranjeras debido a una circulación más amplia, un arbitraje superior y una publicación oportuna.
  • Se estima que el 98% de los artículos médicos indios probablemente se pierden por la comunidad médica internacional.

Conclusiones:

  • Las revistas médicas indias se enfrentan a desafíos significativos para lograr el reconocimiento internacional y el impacto.
  • Las limitaciones percibidas por los autores en las revistas indias contribuyen a la baja visibilidad de la investigación médica india.
  • Se necesitan estrategias para mejorar la calidad y el alcance global de las publicaciones médicas indias.
