Resumen

Las estrellas masivas se forman en cúmulos dentro de núcleos natales. Nuevas observaciones muestran que la fragmentación de estos núcleos puede determinar la función de masa inicial estelar, con la acreción impulsando la formación de estrellas.

Sus antecedentes:

  • Se observa que las estrellas masivas se forman en entornos agrupados.
  • Las primeras etapas de la formación de estrellas masivas ocurren dentro de densos núcleos natales.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Para investigar la estructura de una joven y masiva región de formación estelar.
  • Determinar la distribución de masa del protocúmulo y su relación con la función de masa estelar inicial.

Principales métodos:

  • Se utilizaron observaciones del continuo de polvo interferométrico de alta resolución espacial.
  • El análisis se centró en desentrañar la estructura de tipo racimo dentro del núcleo natal.

Principales resultados:

  • La distribución de masa del protocúmulo observada se alinea con la función de masa inicial estelar.
  • La evidencia sugiere que la fragmentación de núcleos masivos es clave para establecer la función de masa inicial.

Conclusiones:

  • La formación estelar en todos los rangos de masa puede explicarse por procesos de acreción.
  • La coalescencia de protoestrellas de masa intermedia probablemente no sea un mecanismo necesario para la formación de estrellas masivas.
