Sus antecedentes:

  • La vajilla de cristal, a menudo hecha con óxido de plomo, se usa comúnmente para servir y almacenar bebidas.
  • La posibilidad de que el plomo (Pb) se escape del cristal a los líquidos almacenados es una preocupación para la salud pública.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Para investigar el alcance y la velocidad de la elución de plomo (Pb) de decantadores de cristal y vasos en bebidas alcohólicas.
  • Para cuantificar los niveles de contaminación por plomo (Pb) resultantes del almacenamiento a corto y largo plazo en cristalería.

Principales métodos:

  • El vino de Oporto se almacenó en decantadores de cristal durante 4 meses, con mediciones periódicas de la concentración de plomo (Pb).
  • Los vinos y bebidas espirituosas se analizaron para el contenido de plomo (Pb) después de un almacenamiento prolongado en decantadores de cristal.
  • El vino blanco se expuso a vasos de cristal durante un corto período de tiempo para evaluar la elución inmediata de plomo (Pb).

Principales resultados:

  • La concentración de plomo (Pb) en el vino de Oporto aumentó de 89 μg/l a 3518 μg/l después de 4 meses en decantadores de cristal.
  • Los vinos y bebidas espirituosas almacenados a largo plazo en decantadores de cristal exhibieron niveles de plomo (Pb) de hasta 21.530 μg/l.
  • La exposición a corto plazo del vino blanco a vasos de cristal dio lugar a una elución medible de plomo (Pb) en cuestión de minutos.

Conclusiones:

  • Los decantadores y vasos de cristal pueden filtrar cantidades significativas de plomo (Pb) en las bebidas con el tiempo.
  • El riesgo de exposición al plomo (Pb) por el consumo de bebidas almacenadas o servidas en cristalería es sustancial.
  • Se recomienda minimizar el uso de cristales de plomo para el almacenamiento y el servicio de bebidas para evitar la contaminación por plomo (Pb).
