Objetivo del estudio:

  • Para encuestar a los jefes de departamento a nivel nacional sobre las relaciones académico-industrial.
  • Para evaluar la naturaleza, el alcance y las consecuencias de estas relaciones.
  • Informar el desarrollo de políticas institucionales para la gestión de conflictos de intereses.

Principales métodos:

  • Encuesta nacional de sillas de departamento en 125 escuelas médicas alopáticas acreditadas y 15 de los mayores hospitales de enseñanza independientes.
  • Datos recopilados entre febrero de 2006 y octubre de 2006.
  • La encuesta se centró en los tipos de relaciones con la industria.

Principales resultados:

  • 67% de la tasa de respuesta de 459 jefes de departamento.
  • El 60% de los presidentes tenían relaciones personales con la industria (consultoría, discursos, roles en el consejo).
  • Los departamentos clínicos recibieron más recursos (equipo, financiación, apoyo a la capacitación) que los departamentos no clínicos.

Conclusiones:

  • Las relaciones académico-industrial institucionales son muy frecuentes.
  • La divulgación activa y la gestión de estas relaciones son esenciales.
  • Los posibles impactos negativos en la investigación independiente requieren una supervisión cuidadosa.
