Objetivo del estudio:

  • Para investigar el movimiento colectivo en las palomas mensajeras utilizando el seguimiento GPS de alta resolución.
  • Para identificar estructuras jerárquicas y dinámicas de interacción dentro de las bandadas de palomas.

Principales métodos:

  • Utilizó dispositivos GPS ligeros para registrar los registros de trayectoria de las palomas mensajeras en bandadas (hasta 10 individuos).
  • Análisis de datos utilizando funciones de correlación inspiradas en la física estadística para determinar las interacciones en pares y la jerarquía.

Principales resultados:

  • Se identificó una clara jerarquía entre los miembros del rebaño basada en los roles principales en las interacciones en pares, determinadas por los tiempos de retardo de elección direccional.
  • La posición espacial promedio de una paloma dentro del rebaño se correlacionó con su rango jerárquico.
  • Las aves respondieron más rápidamente a los conspecíficos percibidos por el ojo izquierdo, lo que indicaba diferentes roles sensoriales.

Conclusiones:

  • El estudio revela una organización jerárquica en las bandadas de palomas mensajeras, con roles distintos para los individuos en función de la posición y la dinámica de interacción.
  • La organización jerárquica del rebaño puede ofrecer ventajas evolutivas en eficiencia sobre las estructuras igualitarias para ciertos tamaños de rebaño.
  • La percepción visual diferencial (ojo izquierdo) juega un papel en la coordinación del rebaño y los tiempos de respuesta.
