Migration is long-range, seasonal movement from one region or habitat to another. This common strategy, carried out by many different organisms around the world, is an adaptive response that typically corresponds to changes in an organism’s environment, like resource availability or climate. Sus antecedentes:

  • La migración de las aves es un fenómeno complejo influenciado por la genética, el aprendizaje individual y el aprendizaje social.
  • Comprender la interacción entre estos factores es crucial para los esfuerzos de conservación, especialmente para las especies en peligro de extinción como la grulla chilena.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Para diferenciar las contribuciones de los comportamientos genéticos y socialmente aprendidos en la migración de grúas gigantes.
  • Evaluar el impacto a largo plazo del aprendizaje social en el rendimiento migratorio en una población reintroducida.

Principales métodos:

  • Análisis de 8 años de datos de migración de grullas criadas en cautividad.
  • Seguimiento del rendimiento migratorio después de la guía artificial inicial por aeronaves ultraligeras.
  • Evaluación estadística de los efectos del aprendizaje social de aves experimentadas y la relación genética en la precisión de la migración.

Principales resultados:

  • Las estrategias de conservación pueden aprovechar los mecanismos de aprendizaje social para mejorar el éxito de la reintroducción de aves migratorias.
