Sus antecedentes:

La colitis ulcerosa (UC) es una enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal crónica que afecta al colon.
Su incidencia mundial está aumentando, impulsada por factores genéticos, inmunológicos y ambientales.
La patología implica inflamación continua de la mucosa desde el recto proximal.

Objetivo del estudio:

Para resumir la comprensión actual y el tratamiento de la colitis ulcerosa.
Para resaltar las opciones terapéuticas en expansión para esta condición.

Principales métodos:

Revisión de la literatura existente sobre la patogénesis y el tratamiento de la colitis ulcerosa.
Diagnóstico clínico confirmado por colonoscopia e histología.
Estrategias de manejo que incluyen terapia médica e intervención quirúrgica.

Principales resultados:

La colitis ulcerosa se presenta con diarrea con sangre y requiere confirmación endoscópica e histológica.
Los objetivos del tratamiento son inducir y mantener la remisión (curación sintomática y endoscópica).
Los tratamientos actuales incluyen ácido 5-aminosalicílico, esteroides y inmunosupresores.

Conclusiones:

El tratamiento de la colitis ulcerosa se centra en lograr y mantener la remisión.
La colectomía puede ser necesaria para la enfermedad refractaria o la neoplasia.
La gama de tratamientos para la colitis ulcerosa está creciendo rápidamente con nuevos objetivos farmacológicos.
