Bone remodeling is a continuous and balanced process of bone resorption by osteoclasts and bone formation by osteoblasts. In adults, it helps maintain bone mass and calcium homeostasis. Sus antecedentes:

  • Las fracturas relacionadas con la osteoporosis son una preocupación creciente para las poblaciones que envejecen, especialmente las mujeres mayores de 55 años y los hombres mayores de 65 años.
  • Estas fracturas conducen a una importante morbilidad, mortalidad y aumento de los gastos de atención médica.
  • La investigación reciente ha mejorado la evaluación del riesgo de fractura y ampliado las opciones terapéuticas.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Revisar las estrategias actuales para la evaluación y el manejo del riesgo de fractura por osteoporosis.
  • Discutir nuevos enfoques terapéuticos dirigidos a la reabsorción y formación ósea.
  • Resaltar los desafíos en el tratamiento actual de la osteoporosis y sugerir direcciones futuras.

Principales métodos:

  • Revisión de la literatura actual sobre la osteoporosis, la evaluación del riesgo de fractura y los tratamientos farmacológicos.
  • Análisis de las directrices clínicas y los resultados de las investigaciones sobre los bisfosfonatos, denosumab, teriparatida y abaloparatida.
  • Discusión de los beneficios y limitaciones del tratamiento a largo plazo de la osteoporosis.

Principales resultados:

  • Los algoritmos de riesgo de fractura que combinan factores clínicos y densidad mineral ósea son una práctica estándar.

  • Existe una brecha significativa en el tratamiento adecuado de las personas con alto riesgo de fracturas.
  • La implementación de servicios de enlace de fracturas y la mejora de la adherencia a la terapia son cruciales para el manejo futuro.
