Sus antecedentes:

  • La superconductividad no convencional en los óxidos de cobre (por ejemplo, (La, Ba) 2 CuO4) motiva la investigación en materiales similares.
  • Los compuestos isostruturales como Sr2RuO4 y Sr2IrO4 muestran propiedades o firmas superconductoras, pero los estados de resistencia cero son escurridizos.
  • Los estudios teóricos y las heteroestructuras de película delgada (por ejemplo, LaAlO3 / LaNiO3) exploran los superconductores de niquelato artificiales.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Descubrir nuevos superconductores mediante la investigación de materiales con estructuras cristalinas y electrónicas similares a los óxidos de cobre.
  • Explorar el potencial de las heteroestructuras de níquel artificiales para la superconductividad.
  • Para entender los orígenes de la superconductividad en materiales como el óxido de cobre.

Principales métodos:

  • Síntesis de películas finas monocristalinas de níquel de capas infinitas (NdNiO2 y Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO2) mediante reducción topotáctica por medio de la química blanda.
  • Caracterización de las propiedades de los materiales mediante mediciones de resistividad.
  • Análisis de la densidad crítica de corriente y respuesta del campo magnético para confirmar la superconductividad.

Principales resultados:

  • La superconductividad observada en un nicleato de capa infinita, Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO2, es isostructural a los óxidos de cobre de capa infinita.
  • Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO2 exhibe una temperatura de transición superconductora (Tc) entre 9 y 15 Kelvin.
  • NdNiO2 mostró un repunte resistivo a bajas temperaturas, a diferencia del Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO2 superconductor.

Conclusiones:

  • El descubrimiento de la superconductividad en Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO2 establece una nueva familia de superconductores de niquelato.
  • Estos hallazgos sugieren una posible analogía entre los superconductores de níquel y óxido de cobre.
  • Las investigaciones adicionales sobre las estructuras cristalinas de níquel en capas reducidas pueden dar lugar a superconductores adicionales.
