Objetivo del estudio:

  • Revisar el conocimiento actual de los trastornos alimentarios.
  • Para resaltar la importancia del cribado de rutina por parte de los proveedores de atención médica.
  • Para abordar los desafíos, los tratamientos emergentes y las brechas de investigación en el campo.

Principales métodos:

  • Revisión de los sistemas de diagnóstico que reconocen seis trastornos principales de la alimentación y la alimentación.
  • Discusión de las posibles variaciones en la presentación (por ejemplo, por sexo).
  • Identificación de áreas con incertidumbre significativa en la investigación con respecto a la fisiopatología, el tratamiento y el manejo.

Principales resultados:

  • Se identifican seis trastornos principales de la alimentación: la anorexia nerviosa, la bulimia nerviosa, el trastorno por atracón, el trastorno por restricción de la ingesta de alimentos, la pica y el trastorno de la rumia.
  • Los trastornos de la alimentación están poco investigados, lo que lleva a la incertidumbre en su comprensión y manejo.
  • Se observan variaciones en la presentación, como entre machos y hembras.

Conclusiones:

  • Los proveedores de atención médica deben evaluar rutinariamente los hábitos alimenticios como parte de las evaluaciones de salud.
  • Se necesita con urgencia más investigación para aclarar la fisiopatología, el tratamiento y el manejo de los trastornos alimentarios.
  • Abordar los desafíos futuros y explorar tratamientos emergentes es fundamental para mejorar los resultados de los pacientes.
