Sus antecedentes:

  • Las nubes de cúmulo superficiales en las regiones de vientos alisios juegan un papel crucial en el equilibrio energético de la Tierra al reflejar la radiación solar.
  • La respuesta de estas nubes al cambio climático representa una incertidumbre significativa en las proyecciones climáticas.
  • Los modelos climáticos existentes a menudo vinculan los cambios en la fracción de nubes con la mezcla de la troposfera inferior, lo que sugiere la desecación de nubes con un aumento de la mezcla.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Investigar la respuesta de los cúmulos comerciales al cambio climático utilizando nuevos datos de observación.
  • Para probar la "hipótesis de mezcla-deshidratación" que postula que el aumento de la mezcla conduce a una menor nubosidad.
  • Evaluar la fidelidad de los modelos climáticos en la simulación de las retroalimentaciones de las nubes acumuladas del comercio.

Principales métodos:

  • Se utilizaron datos de observación de la campaña de campo EUREC4A (Elucidando el papel del acoplamiento de la circulación de nubes en el clima).

  • Se observaron discrepancias significativas entre los modelos climáticos y los datos EUREC4A con respecto a la magnitud, la variabilidad y el acoplamiento de la mezcla y la nubosidad.

Conclusiones:

  • Los modelos que exageran la dependencia de la nubosidad de la humedad relativa sobre la mezcla se consideran inverosímiles.
  • El estudio apoya y explica una débil retroalimentación del cumulo comercial a escala de proceso.
  • Estos hallazgos desafían una línea clave de evidencia que apoya la alta sensibilidad climática.
