Sus antecedentes:

  • El hipertiroidismo no tratado aumenta el riesgo de mortalidad y puede causar arritmias cardíacas, insuficiencia cardíaca y osteoporosis.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Revisar la prevalencia, las causas, los síntomas y el tratamiento del hipertiroidismo.
  • Para resaltar la importancia de los enfoques de tratamiento individualizados centrados en el paciente.

Principales métodos:

  • Revisión de la presentación clínica, las pruebas de función tiroidea y el estado de los anticuerpos de los receptores de tirotropina para el diagnóstico.
  • Consideración de la cintigrafía tiroidea para la etiología no clara o la presencia de nódulos.
  • Evaluación de las opciones de tratamiento, incluidos los medicamentos antitiroideos, la ablación de yodo radiactivo y la cirugía.

Principales resultados:

  • La enfermedad de Graves es la causa más común (2% en mujeres, 0,5% en hombres).
