Sus antecedentes:

La coinfección del virus de la hepatitis D (HDV) con el virus de la hepatitis B (HBV) afecta a millones de personas en todo el mundo, lo que lleva a enfermedades hepáticas más graves, incluida la cirrosis y el carcinoma hepatocelular.
La superinfección por VHD en portadores crónicos de VHB resulta en una enfermedad hepática que progresa rápidamente, con altas tasas de cirrosis y mortalidad, aunque la progresión de la enfermedad puede ser variable.

Conclusiones:

El VHD representa una carga sustancial para la salud mundial debido a su naturaleza agresiva y su asociación con complicaciones hepáticas graves.
Si bien el interferón alfa ofrece algunos beneficios, sus efectos adversos son comunes y las terapias dirigidas al VHB son ineficaces contra el VHD.
Los tratamientos emergentes como la bulevirtida representan un avance significativo en el manejo de la infección crónica por VHD, con investigaciones en curso para optimizar las estrategias terapéuticas.
