Objetivo del estudio:

  • Investigar las razones de la ausencia de polimorfismo en los compuestos de sales de roca.
  • Comprender la importancia estadística y la estabilidad cinética de la estructura de las salinas.

Principales métodos:

  • Empleó el muestreo aleatorio de la estructura de los primeros principios para explorar el espacio de configuración.
  • Modelado cinético de transformación utilizado para evaluar la estabilidad estructural.
  • Se estudiaron tres compuestos representativos de sales de roca: MgO, TaC y PbTe.

Principales resultados:

  • El muestreo aleatorio de la estructura indicó que la cuenca de atracción de la sal rocosa es estadísticamente dominante en el espacio de configuración para MgO, TaC y PbTe.
  • El modelado cinético demostró una rápida transformación de otras estructuras relevantes, incluidos 457 prototipos conocidos de A1B1, a la estructura de rocas de sal.
  • Se encontró que la estructura de sal de roca era la única opción estable en condiciones ambientales.

Conclusiones:

  • El predominio de la estructura de sal rocosa se atribuye a su gran cuenca de atracción y a la rápida cinética de transformación de otras fases.
  • Estos hallazgos explican la falta de polimorfismo en los compuestos binarios de sales rocosas.
  • El estudio proporciona información sobre la selección de sales de roca para cerámicas de alta entropía y nitritos ternales desordenados, y ayuda a predecir estados metastables en sólidos.
