Sus antecedentes:

  • La guanfacina es un medicamento para el trastorno por déficit de atención e hiperactividad (TDAH) que actúa sobre los receptores adrenérgicos alfa-2A.
  • La actividad de los agonistas alfa-2 centrales puede provocar efectos adversos como somnolencia, bradicardia e hipotensión.
  • La seguridad de los medicamentos pediátricos y el reconocimiento de la sobredosis son preocupaciones críticas de salud pública.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Para reportar el primer caso de intoxicación por guanfacina en un niño pequeño sin TDAH.
  • Para documentar la concentración sérica de guanfacina en un caso de sobredosis pediátrica.
  • Ayudar en el reconocimiento y diagnóstico de la toxicidad de la guanfacina en niños.

Principales métodos:

  • Informe de caso de un niño de 6 años que presentaba somnolencia inexplicable y bradicardia.
  • Exclusión de las causas comunes de los síntomas del paciente.
  • Confirmación de la ingestión de guanfacina mediante análisis de suero por cromatografía líquida y espectrometría de masa cuádruple.
