Sus antecedentes:

  • La guerra en Sudán (desde abril de 2023) ha llevado a una mortalidad no medida.
  • La escasez de datos y el acceso restringido impiden una evaluación precisa.
  • Los sistemas de registro vitales de antes de la guerra eran inadecuados.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Para cuantificar los niveles y patrones de mortalidad no documentados en tiempos de guerra en Sudán.
  • Estimar la mortalidad por cualquier causa y por lesiones intencionales en el estado de Jartum.
  • Para analizar patrones de edad y causa de muerte por región y mes.

Principales métodos:

  • Estudio observacional retrospectivo.
  • Datos recopilados de encuestas en redes sociales y obituarios.
  • Se utilizó la coincidencia de registros probabilísticos y la estimación de múltiples sistemas.

Principales resultados:

  • En los primeros 14 meses de guerra, las causas evitables predominan.
  • Las muertes por lesiones intencionales fueron desproporcionadamente altas en Jartum, Gezira, Kordofan y Darfur.
  • Se estima que 61,202 muertes por todas las causas en Jartum (abril de 2023 a junio de 2024), con 26,024 por lesiones intencionales.

Conclusiones:

  • La guerra de Sudán causó un aumento sustancial y no documentado de la mortalidad, particularmente en Jartum.
  • Las muertes por lesiones intencionales en Jartum superaron las muertes reportadas en el conflicto.
  • Las enfermedades prevenibles, el hambre y las lesiones intencionales aumentaron la mortalidad en todo el país, lo que requirió una acción urgente.
