Objetivo del estudio:

  • Para cuantificar el tiempo de recuperación después de cirugías pediátricas comunes.
  • Para determinar los patrones de uso de analgésicos en pacientes pediátricos después de la operación.
  • Mejorar la experiencia postoperatoria para las familias a través de información basada en datos.

Principales métodos:

  • Encuesta retrospectiva en un centro académico de atención terciaria.
  • Llamadas telefónicas postoperatorias a las familias de los pacientes de 2 a 4 semanas después del alta.
  • Datos recopilados sobre el regreso a la escuela, el regreso de los padres al trabajo y la duración de los analgésicos.

Principales resultados:

  • 192 pacientes incluidos, sometidos a procedimientos como apendicectomía y reparación de hernia.
  • Los pacientes usaron analgésicos no narcóticos durante un promedio de 2-3 días.
  • Los pacientes regresaron a la escuela en los días 6-8 postoperatorios, mientras que los padres regresaron al trabajo en los días 1-2 postoperatorios.

Conclusiones:

  • Los niños pierden un número predecible de días escolares después de cirugías pediátricas comunes.
  • Los cirujanos pueden subestimar la duración de la recuperación pediátrica.
  • El asesoramiento preoperatorio basado en la evidencia puede mejorar la confianza y la preparación de la familia.
