    Las infecciones asociadas a la atención médica (IHA) y la resistencia a los antimicrobianos (AMR) en Canadá muestran tasas estables de infecciones por Clostridioides difficile (CDI) e infecciones por MRSA en el torrente sanguíneo (BSI). Sin embargo, las infecciones por Enterococcus (VRE) resistentes a la vancomicina y las infecciones por Enterobacterales (CPE) productoras de carbapenemasa han aumentado.

    Sus antecedentes:

    • Las infecciones asociadas a la atención sanitaria (IAS) y la resistencia a los antimicrobianos (AMR) representan amenazas significativas para la salud de los pacientes en Canadá.
    • Estos problemas contribuyen al aumento de la morbilidad y la mortalidad, lo que requiere una vigilancia continua.

    Objetivo del estudio:

    • Describir las características epidemiológicas y de laboratorio de las IHA y la resistencia antimicrobiana en los hospitales canadienses.
    • Analizar las tendencias de los patógenos clave de 2019 a 2023.

    Principales métodos:

    • Se utilizaron datos de vigilancia del Programa Canadiense de Vigilancia de la Infección Nosocomial (CNISP) y datos de laboratorio.
    • Recopilamos datos de 109 hospitales de cuidados intensivos en todo Canadá.
    • Las infecciones y colonizaciones monitoreadas incluyen CDI, MRSA, VRE, CPE, CPA y Candida auris.

    Principales resultados:

    • La incidencia de las infecciones de CDI y MRSA en el torrente sanguíneo se mantuvo estable.
    • Se observaron aumentos significativos en las infecciones del torrente sanguíneo por Enterococcus resistentes a la vancomicina (ERV).
    • Las tasas de infección por Enterobacterales productores de carbapenemasa (CPE) se duplicaron de manera no significativa; los aislamientos de Candida auris se mantuvieron bajos.

    Conclusiones:

    • La incidencia de las infecciones por MRSA y CDI es estable, mientras que las infecciones por ERV y EPC están aumentando en los hospitales canadienses.
    • Los datos de vigilancia estandarizados son cruciales para la implementación de estrategias efectivas de prevención y control de infecciones.
    • La reducción de la carga de las IHA y la resistencia antimicrobiana requiere un seguimiento continuo y intervenciones específicas.
