Sus antecedentes:

  • Essure® es un dispositivo permanente de esterilización femenina.
  • Comprender el comportamiento in vivo de los implantes médicos es crucial para la seguridad del paciente.
  • Estudios anteriores han planteado preocupaciones con respecto a las complicaciones de Essure®.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Investigar la composición atómica y los cambios estructurales de los dispositivos explantados de Essure®.
  • Correlacionar los hallazgos elementales con las observaciones macroscópicas y microscópicas.
  • Explorar el papel potencial de los componentes del dispositivo en los síntomas adversos del paciente.

Principales métodos:

  • Análisis de 50 dispositivos explantados de Essure® mediante microscopía y análisis espectral.
  • Análisis elemental de los componentes del dispositivo divididos en bobinas internas, principales y externas.
  • Imágenes de Faxitron de rayos X para evaluar la integridad estructural.

Principales resultados:

  • Los dispositivos explantados exhibieron un estiramiento y una deformación significativos.
  • Se observó calcificación y encapsulación de tejido biológico.
  • El estaño fue un elemento predominante en todas las zonas analizadas, junto con otros metales; también se detectó calcio.

Conclusiones:

  • La presencia y distribución de estaño en los dispositivos Essure® sugieren su posible participación en el desarrollo de síntomas adversos.
  • Se recomienda una investigación adicional para dilucidar el papel del estaño en la patogénesis de las complicaciones del paciente.
  • Los hallazgos subrayan la importancia del análisis de materiales para comprender los problemas de salud relacionados con los dispositivos médicos.
