Depth perception is the ability to perceive objects three-dimensionally. It relies on two types of cues: binocular and monocular. Binocular cues depend on the combination of images from both eyes and how the eyes work together. Since the eyes are in slightly different positions, each eye captures a slightly different image. This disparity between images, known as binocular disparity, helps the brain interpret depth. When the brain compares these images, it determines the distance to an object.

Blinding is a commonly used method of not telling participants which treatment a subject is receiving. Blinding is a critical part of a randomized control trial or RCT. It reduces the bias that affects the results. In an RCT, blinding is used in the form of a placebo. A placebo effect occurs when untreated subjects falsely believe they have received the treatment and report improved symptoms. A placebo or a dummy treatment is administered to subjects to negate the bias caused by such an effect.

Resumen

El cierre de las brechas de monitoreo en alta mar es crucial para la preparación ante terremotos. Se necesitan redes sísmicas mejoradas para comprender y anticipar mejor los grandes eventos sísmicos.

Área de la Ciencia:

  • Geofísica y sismología.
  • Ciencias del terremoto y evaluación de riesgos.

Sus antecedentes:

  • Los grandes terremotos representan riesgos significativos para las comunidades costeras.
  • Las redes actuales de monitoreo sísmico en alta mar tienen lagunas críticas.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Resaltar la necesidad de mejorar el monitoreo sísmico en alta mar.
