Los individuos con amelogénesis imperfecta (AI) presentan un crecimiento vertical excesivo, lo que conduce a una alta prevalencia de mordida abierta anterior (MOA). El monitoreo ortodóncico temprano es crucial para manejar estas características craneofaciales.

Sus antecedentes:

  • La amelogénesis imperfecta (AI) es un grupo de trastornos hereditarios que afectan la formación del esmalte dental.
  • La AI puede provocar diversas complicaciones dentales y potencialmente craneofaciales.
  • La comprensión de la morfología craneofacial en la AI es esencial para la atención integral del paciente.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Evaluar las características craneofaciales de individuos con AI mediante análisis cefalométrico.
  • Comparar variables cefalométricas entre pacientes con AI y controles sanos.
  • Investigar posibles correlaciones entre subtipos de AI y morfología craneofacial.

Principales métodos:

  • Análisis de datos cefalométricos de 19 pacientes con AI y 40 controles sanos.
  • Medición de 23 variables cefalométricas.
  • Comparación estadística mediante la prueba t de Student (p < 0,05).

Principales resultados:

  • Se encontró una prevalencia significativa de mordida abierta anterior (MOA) (57,9%) en pacientes con AI.
  • Los pacientes con AI mostraron un aumento del crecimiento facial vertical, incluyendo ángulos mandibulares y goníacos más altos.
  • Se observó un patrón esquelético de Clase II con mandíbula retraída en pacientes con AI.

Conclusiones:

  • El crecimiento vertical excesivo es un factor principal que contribuye a la MOA en la AI.
  • Los defectos del esmalte relacionados con la AI pueden influir indirectamente en el desarrollo esquelético.
  • Se recomienda la intervención ortodóncica temprana y la atención especializada para pacientes con AI.
