Resumen
La parálisis periódica tirotóxica, una complicación rara de la tirotoxicosis, causa debilidad súbita debido a bajos niveles de potasio. El reemplazo rápido de potasio y el tratamiento de la condición tiroidea subyacente restauraron eficazmente la fuerza muscular.
Sus antecedentes:
- La parálisis periódica tirotóxica (PPT) es una complicación rara y potencialmente mortal de la tirotoxicosis.
- Se caracteriza por parálisis flácida inducida por hipopotasemia debido al desplazamiento intracelular de potasio.
Conclusiones:
- El diagnóstico de PPT se apoya en hipopotasemia sin trastorno ácido-base, conservación renal adecuada del potasio y cambios característicos en el ECG.
- El manejo eficaz requiere la reposición inmediata de potasio, el bloqueo beta y el tratamiento definitivo de la tirotoxicosis para prevenir la recurrencia.
