Resumen

  • Contrastar dos modelos: reestructuración de las correspondencias de sonido frente a la reducción del peso de los sonidos desviados.
  • Examinar cómo el cerebro gestiona la plasticidad y la estabilidad en el procesamiento del habla.

Principales métodos:

  • Se registró la electroencefalografía (EEG) de 23 hablantes nativos de inglés.
  • Los participantes categorizaron palabras en inglés americano canónico y en un acento desconocido.
  • Se analizó la actividad neuronal para evaluar la representación del sonido y la adaptación.

Principales resultados:

  • Los oyentes redujeron el peso de las dimensiones acústicas que se desviaban de la norma basándose en la entrada a corto plazo.
  • La codificación neuronal de las diferencias de sonido de peso reducido fue menos robusta.
  • Los ajustes neuronales adaptativos ocurrieron temprano (100 ms) y persistieron en las etapas de procesamiento.

Conclusiones:

  • La adaptación rápida al acento se basa en la reducción del peso de las señales de sonido, no en la reestructuración completa de las correspondencias nativas.
  • Este mecanismo permite un ajuste flexible al habla nueva mientras se conservan las normas lingüísticas a largo plazo.
  • El sistema auditivo equilibra eficazmente la plasticidad y la estabilidad durante la percepción del habla.
