Sus antecedentes:

  • Un récord de 510 proyectos de ley anti-LGBTQ+ se introdujeron en 2023, lo que podría aumentar el estrés crónico y afectar la salud.
  • El declive cognitivo subjetivo (SCD) es una preocupación creciente, particularmente entre las poblaciones vulnerables.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Examinar la asociación entre los entornos de políticas LGBTQ+ estatales y el SCD en adultos de minorías sexuales.
  • Investigar el impacto de las políticas en el acceso a la atención de la salud cognitiva para este grupo demográfico.

Principales métodos:

  • Se utilizaron datos del Sistema de Vigilancia de Factores de Riesgo de Conducta (BRFSS) de 2019-2022.
  • Se combinaron datos del BRFSS con recuentos de políticas de 2017-2021 para análisis de regresión logística multivariante.
  • Se centró en adultos de minorías sexuales de 45 años o más.

Principales resultados:

  • Entre 10.487 adultos de minorías sexuales, el 9,9% reportó SCD.
  • Los participantes en estados con políticas LGBTQ+ protectoras tuvieron menores probabilidades de reportar SCD (AOR=0,63).
  • Aquellos con SCD en estados protectores tuvieron más probabilidades de discutir problemas cognitivos con los proveedores (AOR=1,68) y recibir la ayuda necesaria (AOR=1,55).

Conclusiones:

  • Los adultos de minorías sexuales que experimentan SCD son más prevalentes en estados con políticas LGBTQ+ restrictivas.
  • Las políticas estatales protectoras se asocian con un mayor acceso a la atención y el apoyo cognitivo para adultos de minorías sexuales con SCD.
