  • Evaluar la hipótesis de que el estrechamiento vascular de las arterias del LTM se asocia con los niveles de tau y el deterioro cognitivo.
  • Investigar el papel de la arteria coroidea anterior (AChA) y la arteria cerebral posterior (PCA) en la patología de la enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA).

Principales métodos:

  • Se analizó la carga de tau (PET) y el tamaño de las arterias del LTM (RM) en cohortes sanas y con deterioro cognitivo leve (MCI).
  • Se evaluó la asociación entre el diámetro arterial y la progresión del deterioro cognitivo.
  • Se utilizó la RM de perfusión arterial de espín súper selectiva (SS-ASL) para determinar los patrones de perfusión de la AChA y la PCA en el LTM.

Principales resultados:

  • El diámetro de la luz de la AChA se correlacionó negativamente con los niveles de tau amigdalino en el conjunto de datos OASIS.
  • El diámetro de la AChA fue la única arteria del Círculo de Willis asociada con la progresión del deterioro cognitivo en pacientes con MCI.
  • Los datos de SS-ASL indicaron que la perfusión amigdalina depende principalmente de la AChA.

Conclusiones:

  • Este estudio presenta la primera evidencia de un efecto vascular específico de la arteria en características clave de la EA.
  • La salud vascular de la AChA es fundamental para detener potencialmente la progresión de la EA.
  • La AChA comprometida contribuye a la vulnerabilidad selectiva del LTM a la patología tau.
