  • Las poblaciones asiático-americanas, nativas de Hawái e isleñas del Pacífico (AANHPI) están significativamente subrepresentadas en la investigación sobre el envejecimiento y la enfermedad de Alzheimer y demencias relacionadas (ADRD).; Esta subrepresentación limita la generalización de los hallazgos y el desarrollo de intervenciones culturalmente relevantes para estas comunidades.; La investigación existente a menudo no emplea enfoques centrados en la comunidad, lo que dificulta la confianza y la participación de las partes interesadas de AANHPI.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Establecer el registro Collaborative Approach for AANHPI Research and Education (CARE) para abordar la subrepresentación de los AANHPI en la investigación sobre envejecimiento, ADRD y cuidado.; Implementar principios de investigación participativa comunitaria para fomentar la confianza y las asociaciones entre las partes interesadas académicas y comunitarias.; Desarrollar y evaluar estrategias de participación culturalmente adaptadas para el reclutamiento, retención e inclusión de participantes AANHPI en la investigación.

Principales métodos:

  • El registro CARE utiliza principios de investigación participativa comunitaria, guiado por asociaciones comunitarias y académicas.; Los participantes se inscriben a través de encuestas en línea, en persona o por teléfono disponibles en varios idiomas, recopilando información sociodemográfica, de salud y de cuidado.; El registro apoya activamente a los investigadores proporcionando referencias de reclutamiento para estudios centrados en poblaciones AANHPI, particularmente en envejecimiento y ADRD.

Principales resultados:

  • Al 13 de enero de 2025, se han inscrito 10.485 adultos AANHPI, con una edad media de 54,3 años, incluyendo un 34,8% de adultos mayores (≥65).; Aproximadamente el 14% informó síntomas de ADRD, y el 40,4% de los cuidadores cuidó a alguien con ADRD. La mayoría de los participantes (83,1%) nacieron en el extranjero, y el 50% tenía un dominio limitado del inglés.; CARE ha facilitado más de 14.900 referencias a 51 estudios desde enero de 2021, con importantes solicitudes de reclutamiento para estudios sobre envejecimiento y ADRD. La expansión nacional está en marcha.

Conclusiones:

  • El registro CARE demuestra un modelo exitoso de participación comunitaria para aumentar la participación de AANHPI en la investigación sobre envejecimiento y ADRD.; Las estrategias de reclutamiento y retención culturalmente adaptadas son efectivas para involucrar a diversas poblaciones AANHPI, incluidas aquellas con dominio limitado del inglés.; La expansión de CARE tiene como objetivo mejorar aún más la inclusión en la investigación y avanzar en la comprensión científica del envejecimiento y la demencia dentro de las comunidades AANHPI.
