Sus antecedentes:

  • La resiliencia cognitiva (CR) es la capacidad de mantener la función cognitiva a pesar de la neuropatología.; La influencia de los factores modificables del estilo de vida y la salud en la CR no se comprende bien.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Investigar la asociación entre el índice de Estilo de Vida para la Salud Cerebral (LIBRA) y la resiliencia cognitiva.; Identificar componentes específicos del estilo de vida que puedan promover la resiliencia cognitiva en adultos mayores.

Principales métodos:

  • Se analizaron 585 fallecidos del Rush Memory and Aging Project.; Se realizaron exámenes neuropatológicos y evaluaciones cognitivas.; Los modelos lineales mixtos evaluaron la CR (niveles y pendiente de CR) y la regresión lineal examinó las asociaciones del índice LIBRA.

Principales resultados:

  • Las puntuaciones LIBRA más bajas se asociaron linealmente con niveles y pendiente de CR más altos.; Las actividades cognitivamente estimulantes demostraron la asociación más fuerte con ambas medidas de CR.; Las puntuaciones LIBRA más bajas se asociaron con niveles de CR más altos en participantes sin patología, con una patología cardiovascular única o con una patología neurodegenerativa única.

Conclusiones:

  • La modificación del estilo de vida y los programas de manejo de la salud pueden promover la resiliencia cognitiva en adultos mayores.; Las intervenciones dirigidas a los factores del estilo de vida pueden ayudar a preservar la salud cognitiva al mejorar la resiliencia a la neuropatología.
