  • Los participantes incluyeron 142 hombres negros, 226 mujeres negras, 120 hombres blancos y 153 mujeres blancas del Proyecto de Envejecimiento Cognitivo de Michigan.
  • La participación social se midió por la frecuencia de participación en ocho actividades; la memoria episódica fue una puntuación z compuesta.
  • Se evaluaron las asociaciones mediante modelos de regresión múltiple estratificados por raza y género, ajustando por variables demográficas y de redes sociales.

Principales resultados:

  • Los hombres negros mostraron mejor memoria con un aumento en la asistencia a servicios religiosos y la práctica de juegos de cartas.
  • Los hombres blancos que asistían frecuentemente a clubes deportivos/sociales tenían peor memoria.
  • No se encontraron asociaciones significativas entre la participación social y la memoria en mujeres negras o blancas.

Conclusiones:

  • La participación social es importante para la salud cognitiva, particularmente para los hombres negros.
