  • El deterioro cognitivo subjetivo (SCD) persistente aumenta el riesgo de enfermedad de Alzheimer y demencias relacionadas (ADRD), particularmente en personas con VIH.; Las poblaciones que envejecen con VIH están creciendo, sin embargo, la investigación sobre el SCD en este grupo demográfico, específicamente en nigerianos, es limitada.; El estado de salud y la determinación (un rasgo no cognitivo) son predictores potenciales de la función cognitiva y pueden influir en el SCD.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Investigar los efectos del estado de salud y la determinación sobre el SCD en nigerianos adultos que viven con VIH.; Examinar el papel moderador de la determinación en la asociación entre el estado de salud y el SCD.; Proporcionar una base para futuras investigaciones e informar intervenciones de salud cognitiva para adultos mayores con VIH.

Principales métodos:

  • Un estudio transversal que involucró a 117 nigerianos adultos que viven con VIH.; Los participantes completaron cuestionarios sobre factores sociodemográficos, estado de salud, rasgos no cognitivos (determinación, resiliencia) y SCD.; Se utilizó la regresión lineal multivariante para analizar la asociación entre el estado de salud y el SCD, y el efecto moderador de la determinación, controlando las covariables.

Principales resultados:

  • Una mejor salud subjetiva se asoció negativamente con el SCD (ß = -12.664, p < .001).; La determinación se asoció positivamente con el SCD (ß = 1.135, p < .001), pero moderó la relación, reduciendo el efecto de la salud subjetiva sobre el SCD (ß = -0.405, p < .001).; Estar casado o convivir se asoció con un menor SCD (ß = 2.907, p < .006), mientras que puntos de vista colectivistas más altos se correlacionaron con un mayor SCD (ß = 2.907, p < .008).

Conclusiones:

  • El estado de salud y la determinación influyen significativamente en el deterioro cognitivo subjetivo en nigerianos mayores con VIH.; La determinación puede mitigar el impacto negativo de la mala salud en el deterioro cognitivo.; Los hallazgos respaldan el desarrollo de intervenciones específicas de salud cognitiva para esta población vulnerable.
