Sus antecedentes:

El genotipo APOE-ε4 y los determinantes sociales de la salud (DSS) desfavorables aumentan el riesgo de enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA).; La interacción entre los DSS y APOE-ε4 en la patología de la EA y la expresión de los síntomas sigue sin estar clara, especialmente en países de ingresos bajos y medianos.

Objetivo del estudio:

Investigar cómo los DSS modifican la asociación entre APOE-ε4 y la neuropatología de la EA.; Examinar el papel de los DSS en la relación entre la patología de la EA y los síntomas de demencia.

Principales métodos:

Estudio transversal utilizando datos del Biobanco para Estudios de Envejecimiento (n=1,021).; Clasificación de individuos por estado de portador de APOE-ε4 y evaluación de DSS mediante entrevistas a familiares cercanos.; Evaluación de cambios neuropatológicos de la EA (ADNC) y gravedad de la demencia (CDR-SB).; Uso de análisis de regresión para probar interacciones entre DSS, APOE-ε4 y patología de la EA.

Principales resultados:

Los DSS no modificaron la asociación entre el genotipo APOE-ε4 y la patología de la EA (p=0.264).; Los DSS modificaron significativamente la asociación entre la patología de la EA y los síntomas de demencia (p=0.001).; El vínculo entre la patología de la EA y los síntomas de demencia fue más fuerte en individuos con perfiles desfavorables de DSS.

Conclusiones:

Los DSS no influyen en la relación entre APOE-ε4 y los cambios cerebrales de la EA.; Los DSS impactan significativamente la manifestación clínica de la demencia en individuos con patología de la EA.; Los perfiles desfavorables de DSS exacerban la expresión de los síntomas de demencia en el contexto de la patología de la EA.
