Sus antecedentes:

  • Este estudio evaluó sesiones informativas sobre demencia co-creadas para mejorar el conocimiento y las actitudes.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Evaluar el impacto de las sesiones informativas sobre demencia en el conocimiento y las actitudes de los adultos.
  • Comparar la efectividad de la entrega presencial versus en línea de la educación sobre demencia.
  • Identificar las necesidades de futuras intervenciones para reducir el estigma relacionado con la demencia.

Principales métodos:

  • Investigación participativa comunitaria con redes de demencia en el suroeste de Sídney.
  • Una intervención educativa de dos horas que cubre la demencia, sus causas, atención y servicios de apoyo.
  • Comparación del conocimiento (Escala de Evaluación del Conocimiento sobre Demencia - DKAS) y las actitudes (Escala de Actitudes hacia el Diagnóstico de Demencia - DDAS) entre los grupos de intervención (presencial/en línea) y el grupo de control.

Principales resultados:

  • Los grupos de intervención mostraron puntuaciones significativamente más altas en conocimiento sobre demencia (DKAS) en comparación con el grupo de control (p < .001).
  • Solo dos de los 15 ítems de actitud (DDAS) mostraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas.
  • El grupo de control exhibió actitudes más positivas en estos dos ítems que los grupos de intervención.

Conclusiones:

  • Las sesiones informativas sobre demencia mejoraron eficazmente el conocimiento de los participantes, independientemente del modo de entrega (presencial o en línea).
  • Una sola sesión educativa fue insuficiente para alterar significativamente las actitudes hacia el diagnóstico de demencia.
  • Las intervenciones culturalmente adaptadas son cruciales para reducir eficazmente el estigma público asociado con la demencia.
