Sus antecedentes:

  • El esfuerzo mental es clave para el control cognitivo, con dimensiones exógenas (automáticas) y endógenas (intencionales).
  • El control cognitivo implica la gestión de procesos automáticos, como la lectura de palabras, para alcanzar objetivos, como se observa en la tarea de Stroop.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Investigar el papel del esfuerzo mental voluntario en el control cognitivo.
  • Modelar la tarea de Stroop utilizando inferencia activa para comprender la modulación del esfuerzo.

Principales métodos:

  • Veinte voluntarios sanos realizaron la tarea de Stroop bajo condiciones de máximo esfuerzo (EXR) y relajación (RLX).
  • Se utilizó un modelo generativo de dos capas dentro del marco de inferencia activa para estimar los parámetros de sesgo (e) y motivación (c).

Principales resultados:

  • La condición de máximo esfuerzo aumentó significativamente el parámetro de motivación (c).
  • El parámetro de sesgo (e), que representa la tendencia a leer palabras, no se vio afectado significativamente por el esfuerzo.
  • Los cambios conductuales se atribuyeron a un aumento del esfuerzo endógeno, lo que mejoró la motivación.

Conclusiones:

  • El esfuerzo mental voluntario mejora la motivación endógena en lugar de alterar los sesgos de respuesta arraigados.
  • Los déficits en la regulación del esfuerzo son relevantes para enfermedades neurodegenerativas como el Alzheimer y el Parkinson.
  • El enfoque computacional proporciona un marco para evaluar los estados cognitivos y motivacionales en entornos clínicos.
