Sus antecedentes:

  • La estimulación por interferencia temporal (TI) ofrece una focalización no invasiva en el cerebro profundo.
  • Estudios previos mostraron que la estimulación TI modulaba la actividad del hipocampo y mejoraba la memoria en adultos sanos.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Investigar los efectos de la estimulación TI en múltiples sesiones en el hipocampo en la enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA) en etapa temprana.

Principales métodos:

  • 21 pacientes con EA recibieron 50 minutos diarios de estimulación TI en el hipocampo izquierdo durante 10 días.
  • Se evaluaron los resultados utilizando pruebas neurocognitivas y neuroimagen (PET, fMRI, ASL, DTI).

Principales resultados:

  • La estimulación TI en múltiples sesiones fue segura y bien tolerada en pacientes con EA.
  • Los pacientes demostraron mejoras selectivas en tareas de memoria episódica dependientes del hipocampo después de la estimulación.

Conclusiones:

  • Presenta resultados de seguridad, neurocognitivos y de neuroimagen del primer estudio de estimulación TI en EA en etapa temprana.
  • Destaca la estimulación TI como un enfoque terapéutico potencial para la enfermedad de Alzheimer.
