Sus antecedentes:

La pobreza menstrual, la falta de acceso a productos menstruales, instalaciones de higiene y educación, es una preocupación creciente de salud pública.; La equidad menstrual tiene como objetivo abordar las barreras sistémicas que impiden el acceso a los recursos de salud menstrual.

Objetivo del estudio:

Explorar la prevalencia de la pobreza menstrual en un entorno urbano.; Informar intervenciones dirigidas para mejorar la equidad menstrual.

Principales métodos:

Se realizó una encuesta retrospectiva transversal utilizando un cuestionario de 8 ítems.; Los datos se recopilaron de forma anónima en línea durante 1,5 años mediante muestreo por conveniencia.; Los participantes fueron reclutados a través de folletos en lugares públicos con códigos QR y enlaces web.

Principales resultados:

353 personas menstruantes (de 13 a 54 años) en Allentown, PA, participaron.; Una mayoría experimentó pobreza menstrual, perdiéndose eventos de la vida (77,9%) o usando comportamientos de higiene de riesgo (79,0%).; El código postal y la edad se asociaron significativamente con los indicadores de pobreza menstrual y las preferencias de productos.

Conclusiones:

La pobreza menstrual afecta a una parte sustancial de la población urbana estudiada.; Las futuras intervenciones requieren adaptación a códigos postales y grupos de edad específicos.; Se recomiendan tamaños de muestra más grandes y preguntas más detalladas sobre educación menstrual para futuras investigaciones.
