Objetivo del estudio:
- Investigar los factores demográficos, psicosociales y del Enfoque de Acción Razonada (RAA) que influyen en las intenciones de los estudiantes universitarios de minorías sexuales de buscar ayuda relacionada con el alcohol.
Principales métodos:
- Se administró una encuesta en línea transversal a 253 estudiantes universitarios de minorías sexuales en los EE. UU.
- Se utilizó un análisis de regresión lineal jerárquica para examinar las asociaciones entre varios factores y las intenciones de búsqueda de ayuda.
Principales resultados:
- El estatus de minoría racial/étnica se asoció con menores intenciones de búsqueda de ayuda en comparación con los estudiantes blancos no hispanos.
- La adversidad infantil predijo positivamente las intenciones de búsqueda de ayuda, mientras que el consumo de alcohol peligroso las predijo negativamente.
- Las actitudes favorables, las normas más fuertes y una mayor autonomía dentro del marco del RAA se vincularon con mayores intenciones de buscar ayuda relacionada con el alcohol.
Conclusiones:
- Existe la necesidad de programas de detección e intervención de alcohol culturalmente competentes para minorías raciales y sexuales.
- Las universidades deben implementar exámenes de salud conductual y utilizar los constructos del RAA en campañas para promover comportamientos de búsqueda de ayuda entre los estudiantes universitarios.
