La utilización de recursos en los centros de atención a largo plazo (LTC, por sus siglas en inglés) aumenta con la función física y cognitiva de los residentes. Adaptar los servicios de LTC a las necesidades individuales de los residentes es crucial para una prestación de atención eficiente.

Objetivo del estudio:
- Analizar el tiempo de servicio y la utilización total de recursos en centros de atención a largo plazo.

- Datos recopilados de 3295 residentes de 32 centros de atención a largo plazo entre septiembre y noviembre de 2018.
- Tiempo de servicio medido para los proveedores de atención directa.
- Utilización de recursos analizada en función de la función del residente y ajustada por las características de la instalación.
Principales resultados:
- La mayor utilización diaria de recursos fue de 110,0 minutos por residente para aquellos con alta función física, baja función cognitiva y sin síntomas conductuales.
- La utilización total de recursos generalmente aumentó con puntuaciones más altas de función física.
- Dentro de niveles similares de función física, puntuaciones más altas de función cognitiva se correlacionaron con una mayor utilización de recursos, excepto en el grupo de función física más alta, donde la relación se invirtió.
Conclusiones:
- La utilización de recursos por parte de los residentes en la atención a largo plazo está demostrablemente relacionada con el funcionamiento físico y cognitivo.
- Los servicios de atención a largo plazo deben adaptarse para alinearse con las capacidades funcionales específicas de los residentes.
