Sus antecedentes:
- El cáncer de mama es el cáncer más común entre las mujeres saudíes.; La baja participación en el cribado resalta la necesidad de comprender las percepciones y creencias que influyen en los comportamientos preventivos.; La detección temprana es crucial para mejorar los resultados de supervivencia.
Objetivo del estudio:
- Evaluar las percepciones sobre el cáncer de mama entre las mujeres en las instalaciones de Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH).; Examinar las asociaciones entre los dominios de percepción y los factores sociodemográficos/de cribado.; Se utilizó la Escala de Percepción del Cáncer de Mama (BPS) validada.
Principales métodos:
- Estudio transversal, basado en cuestionarios (octubre de 2024 - marzo de 2025).; Se incluyeron pacientes mujeres de 20 años o más con cuentas MyChart activas, invitadas electrónicamente.; Se utilizaron pruebas no paramétricas (Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U) con corrección de Bonferroni.
Principales resultados:
- La educación de posgrado se relacionó con un mayor conocimiento, creencia en el tratamiento, chequeo de salud, percepciones de riesgo y menor estigma.; El empleo se asoció con un mayor conocimiento percibido; los antecedentes familiares con un mayor temor y percepciones de riesgo.; La experiencia previa de cribado se correlacionó con un mayor conocimiento, percepciones de chequeo de salud y menor estigma; el 51,7% tenía conocimientos adecuados, el 64-70% informó un temor de moderado a alto.
Conclusiones:
- Las percepciones sobre el cáncer de mama en las mujeres saudíes están influenciadas por la educación, el empleo, los antecedentes familiares y la experiencia de cribado.; Se necesitan intervenciones educativas específicas para abordar las lagunas de conocimiento y los estigmas culturales.; Es esencial mejorar la participación en el cribado y la detección temprana.
